Good morning Glammies!! So....if you haven't noticed, over the knee boots have been a thing the past few fall/winter seasons and I thought I'd share my thoughts on how to wear over the knee boots especially if you're wanting to incorporate them into your work wardrobe.
(At the bottom of the post there's a "Shop The Post" section and the first 2 boots are the exact ones in the pictures fyi)

So when the trend started a few years ago I didn't jump on board immediately because I had boots that hit right under the knee and my booties so I had plenty of boot options. Fast forward a few years and I picked these up both in black and a really pretty taupe color and I've loved having them in my wardrobe ever since! Then I added these slouchy darker brown ones to the mix this season!
I had a mental block for a while about wearing them to work because the only time I had really seen them worn in the past was when Julie Roberts wore them in "Pretty Woman". LOL So I always dismissed them as an option for work and if I can't wear them to work, it's hard to justify only buying them for a night out, ya know?
When I saw some of the options out there though, I realized that the right style would be totally appropriate for work/meeting with clients but it did take some searching to find the right boots at the right price that I wanted to invest in. There was some criteria I used that I'll outline below that helped me choose the ones that I have.
When I plan an outfit with my over the knee boots if it's for work, I know that I want to wear a skirt or dress that runs on the shorter side because the boot is going to come up a lot higher on my leg than say a regular knee length pencil skirt. Then, I usually keep it pretty basic for my top and covered up since I'm showing a bit of leg, so I'll do like a basic black crew neck or turtleneck top or pop a bomber jacket over whatever I'm wearing. We just had our company Christmas party and I work a super cute short gold and black sequin skirt, a black silky cami and a black boyfriend jacket over it with my black over the knee boots and it was perfect (and all stuff I already had in my closet!) So I would recommend opting for a skirt or dress that runs shorter and fits well. You can also add a pair of tights if you want. I normally wear my skirts and dresses with bare legs as long as I have a spray tan but if I don't, I'll wear a pair of tights.
I personally love the look of over the knee boots because I feel like it's a little more funky and edgy than normal knee high boots and just adds a bit of glam to your outfit!
Side note - I usually buy my boots a half a size larger than my normal shoe size so I can wear a sock with them and it not pinch my feet. So if I usually wear a size 8.5 shoe, I'll buy a size 9 boot but only if I'm planning to wear a sock. I don't do that with my booties that I wear with a bare foot.
Things I look for in my over the knee boots
Heel Type - I wanted a heel that wasn't a stiletto because I wanted to feel comfortable wearing it to work without it seeming so "Pretty Woman" if you know what I mean. So I opted for a heel style that I would call on the "chunky" side but they aren't too heavy so it's a really good balance. I did buy some cheap ones just to try out and they had a super skinny heel and I ended up not feeing comfortable in them for work. I purchased my black pair and taupe pair (not shown) and then earlier this year I snagged these dark brown ones that I'm wearing in the pictures with the polka dot dress and they do have a more skinny heel but it's not too skinny for me.
Toe Shape - As long as the toe wasn't round or square I was fine, I prefer either a pointy toe or almond shape and the black ones in the pictures are what I would call more almond shaped so they are actually more comfortable for my toes because the toe box is a little wider compared to a super pointy toe and I also have them in a taupe color. The dark brown ones that you see in the pictures with the polka dot dress are a bit pointier but I know the brand works for my feet so it's all good.
Staying Power - Ok, so when you wear over the knee boots you want to make sure they are going to stay up on your leg when you're up walking around and don't start to sag down. A lot of boots have laces that you can tighten up the shaft that helps with this. Neither one of my boot styles have the laces but it's fine because I tested them out before I purchased on my bare leg to make sure they didn't sag down. This is one of the reasons I recommend actually going to the store to try them on or read the online reviews especially if you know your legs are on the more slender side.
